Under the Freedom of Information Act, a former Mayor of Narberth is demanding to know how much the local authority has benefited from the collection of fines imposed on illegally parked vehicles in the town's car park.
Speaking at Tuesday night's monthly meeting of the town council, Clr. Mrs. Sue Rees said she had been made aware of instances whereby motorists had parked in the bays adjoining the old primary school in the Town Moor car park and purchased tickets - thinking they were obeying the rules!
However, because the bays were allocated one hour free parking, if the motorists were not back in that time, they were being issued with penalty notices, even though they had purchased, in some cases, an all-day ticket.
"One person told me a parking enforcement officer was standing by the toilets and watched the motorist go and buy a ticket, place it in the car and walk off, not even having the decency to go and tell them what they were doing was illegal.
"I would like us to write to Pembrokeshire County Council and ask under the Freedom of Information Act how much revenue has been generated from this one strip in this way. I would imagine it would be quite a lot."
