Once I was a hard working chap,
Working all day through,
Never was there time enough,
For all I had to do!
Now I’m just a dreamer,
I watch the world go by,
Wondering where the years went,
Looking backwards with a sigh.
It’s great to sit and ponder,
With time to stand and stare,
Constantly assessing life,
Glad that I’m still here!
I did my best, no regrets.
Now I’m just an observer,
With a knowing smile on my face.
Been there, done that, worn the ‘T’ shirt,
Done things at my own pace.
For nothing really changes,
It reinvents itself all the while,
Everything goes round and round,
Even fashion, returns its style!
Young folk see us ‘oldies’
As knowing nothing at all!
Just as we did in our time,
Years ago, when we were small!
Some people say things have changed,
For the best, that’s hard to say!
But I remember when I was young
And the things I enjoyed each day.
Now I reside in an old people’s home
My only last resort,
But I am being looked after,
With kind and loving care
Thank God for all they have done for me
My home is ‘Park House Court’.
