Sir,

Having been an avid watcher of Tenby Ironman since the first swim, I am delighted to see the event grow and the population of Tenby and Pembrokeshire embrace the concept and really enjoy the spirit of competition and endurance. I am sure some businesses suffer due to the road closures, but overall Tenby is always buzzing with life the whole weekend, with hotels, bars and restaurants enjoying the craic.

It seems that Pembrokeshire Council have also got in on the act, and having parked in the same spot in Haywood Lane for the four previous years, it seems that this year my and many others enthusiasm at getting out of bed to watch the swim, results in a fixed penalty charge for illegal parking.

There was some very dubious signage which was not obvious at a very murky daybreak which resulted in jobsworth parking officials making hay, booking vehicles that were parked at any other time, perfectly legally.

This is a real shame and no doubt some of my fellow sinners will not return next year, if the event continues; and seems a blatant way of filling the coffers at town hall and overall not very sportsmanlike and ruining a perfectly fantastic day.

Jon Bolter,

Cardiff
