Narberth County Councillor Wynne Evans has sent an open letter to the Town Council updating them on the current position regarding the former CP School site.
"I have asked the county council formally, that Narberth Town Council should be fully informed on the current activity involving the disposal of the site," he said.
"I feel very strongly that you have not as yet been given information, but this is due to the fact that even though a preferred developer has been chosen, nothing has been signed and sealed. Until that is done, it is pointless speculating on what will happen on the site.
"Many rumours of various retailers and pub chains have been rife in town for months," added Clr. Evans. "I will be delighted when the county council formally makes it known. It has been five long years that the building has stood empty, and it is in need of some cosmetic repair as it stands today.
"The town council will also be asked in time, following submission of a detailed planning application, to register their views and comments on the proposals, as a main consultee," he continued.
"So we are not trying to be secretive, or trying to exclude the town council, we just need to make sure that everything is in place to complete the sale by contract. And I will ask the company involved to do a formal presentation to the town council, where possibly you could invite members of the Chamber of Trade and Future Forum to your meeting.
"As always, I will be happy to meet with you and any of your members in County Hall. I will always try to make myself available for the town council, and greatly appreciate the hard and valued work you do for our community," concluded Clr. Evans.
COUNCIL WOULD WELCOME MEETING
The town clerk, Mrs. Caroline Coaker, stated this week that, although the town council had already made contact with the director of development at Pembrokeshire County Council in early January to request that they be kept fully informed on the sale of the old school, they would welcome and would be delighted to host a meeting with the company concerned in order that a formal presentation can be made.
