Pembrokeshire County Council do not intend to undertake further work around Tenby Leisure Centre, despite a local councillors claiming that the surrounding area resembled a ‘tip’.
Speaking at a recent meeting of Tenby Town Council, Clr. Tony Brown said that people had approached him to see if something could be done about the missing environs outside the facility situated on Marsh Road.
Clr. Brown pointed out that the county council had done a ‘fantastic job’ in refurbishing the leisure centre facilities, but he had concerns about part of the fence being missing for some time towards the overflow car park.
He also pointed out that the grass area was being left unattended and that many locals living in the area had stated that they had been contacting the county council about the fence for the past eight months, but had not even had a response about it.
“We have a lovely new looking leisure centre, but yet that part looks like a tip,” said Clr. Brown.
At Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, an update was provided to members from Michael Harries of the county council’s transportation department.
“The site has been inspected and I can appreciate the concerns raised, although we do not believe the fence was damaged when the construction of the extension was undertaken due to the work being carried out to the front of the leisure centre and the fence being at the rear and side of the centre,” he explained.
“We also have question marks over the ownership of the fence. It is our belief that it was constructed upon the building of The Clicketts, therefore PCC would not have responsibility for the maintenance of it and at present time we do not intend to undertake further work,” added Mr. Harries.
Clr. Paul Rapi told his colleagues that surely PCC were required to put a fence up as they were responsible for security for the facility.
“There’s also health and safety matters, concerning children getting onto the site, which PCC should be responsible for,” added Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter.
