The pupils at Tavernspite School recently took part in 'Shwmae Day,' celebrated on Wednesday, October 15 - a day and opportunity to celebrate the use of the Welsh language and the further development of the Welsh culture. Pupils learnt a number of Welsh songs and engaged in a range of creative and social tasks that formed a basis of the day's celebrations and events.
The parents of Tavernspite School are also 'getting into the spirit' of learning Welsh with attending an in-house group, being coordinated by Mrs. Emanuel (Welsh coordinator for the school) and Mrs. Arthur (deputy headteacher). The course is running for four weeks, with parents learning key phrases that can help them support their children at home. Mrs. Emanuel and Mrs. Arthur would like to thank all of the very keen attendees at the course - Da iawn!
The new members of the school council have been appointed this half-term, commencing with a wonderful project funded by Mr. Noel Howard, a retiring governor. The children have been involved in collaborating their ideas and thoughts in order to develop a carved log in the main playing field which tells a story of their school- a representative symbol that will remain in the school for many years to come. The school council submitted their ideas to Dave Welton who then got to work - the final piece created is a truly wonderful piece of work and the children are delighted with the results. A huge thank you to Noel Howard for funding the scheme and to Dave Welton for his enduring hardwork and creativity!
The annual Harvest Festival celebrations took place last week (Thursday, October 16), with each class performing an item to a great audience of parents! Each child offered a Harvest gift, which was then delivered by some of the parents to the local senior citizens and to the food bank in Narberth. Mr. Phelps said how grateful he was to all of the parents for their very kind Harvest offerings and congratulated all of the children on their fantastic performances!
