The cold, dry October provided the pupils with excellent cross country conditions. All pupils in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 took part in the annual Fishguard and Preseli Family of Schools Cross Country competition held at Ysgol y Preseli. Excellent results were achieved by many of the pupils, especially Rosie Bennett, who came first in the yr 4 girls' race, Cerys John, who came second in the yr 5 girls' race, and Ned Bennett, who came third in the yr 3 boys' race.

Along with Eva Jenkins (yr 6), Morgan Davies, Jack Miles (yr 5), Ifan Rees (yr 4) and Leah Raymond (yr 3), the three went ahead to compete in the Oakwood Cross Country Competition held a week later. Congratulations are extended to Leah, who won her race, and to Rosie, who gained sixth place in her race. These were fantastic results when considering there were over 100 entrants in each race.

The year 6 pupils travelled to Haverfordwest to take part in the Crucial Crew workshops. Various activities based around health and safety issues awaited the pupils during a busy afternoon.

Another busy, enjoyable afternoon was had by all pupils in years 3, 4, 5 and 6 in the Urdd's Jamboree hosted by Mr. Martin Geraint and organised by Dyfed Siôn.

Miss Evans's year 5 and 6 pupils have recently completed the 'Bible Explorer' course under the guidance of Mrs. Janet Hawkin. Mrs. Hawkin presented the pupils with certificates to celebrate their work in a special assembly. Thanks go to Mrs. Hawkin for all her hard work at the school.

The junior school pupils were recently invited to Nant y Ffin motel by the county's educational avisors. Many of the county's teachers were receiving training by the innovative teacher, Mr. Tim Ryland, who was using ICT to develop creative thinking skills. It was an honour for the school to be involved in such a day and a privilege and an inspiration for the pupils and staff to work with Mr. Ryland.

The Harvest Thanksgiving service was held in the school on the last Friday before half-term. In the company of family and friends, the children presented their work confidently, before Mr. Huw George addressed the children. Before the service began, there was an opportunity to present a past pupil, Tallulah Ray, with some long-overdue awards. Before the summer, while still a pupil at Ysgol Brynconin, Tallulah won several national awards for her art and written work. Her work had appeared on the 'PublishingHouse Me' website, a forum for gifted and talented writers.

In September, two pieces of her work were nominated for the website's national 'Oscars', with one nomination for her poem 'Darkness' and one her art work. Unfortunately, Tallulah had been unable to travel to Coventry for the awards ceremony where her work won two runners-up prizes from over 6,000 entries.

Tallulah was presented her certificates by Mr. George, in the presence of her mum and Mrs. Ann Rees-Phillips (head of the Junior School at Ysgol Dyffryn Taf, where she is now a pupil). Once again the school would like to congratulate Tallulah on all her success.
