Pictured are members of Saundersfoot AFC proudly wearing their new shirts sponsored by the ‘Bone Cancer Research Trust’ in memory of a local teenager who sadly lost his battle with bone cancer five years ago.
Players are seen with the mother of the late Daniel Bridle of Saundersfoot who passed away in 2014 at the tender age of 18.
With Daniel’s story touching the local community, it led to the family setting up the Daniel Bridle Memorial Fund to help raise money and awareness for the Bone Cancer Research charity.
“I have chosen to sponsor the local football team, as Daniel was misdiagnosed at the time with a sports injury and I’m keen for people to have the knowledge and awareness about bone cancer in children and teenagers, because we didn’t,” explained Daniel’s mum Caroline.
“The cancer Daniel had on average affects 10 to 24 year old, with over 500 new cases yearly - so I just want to spread the word, and it seemed like a fitting way to do it through the Saundersfoot AFC shirts, and just maybe save a life!
“As Daniel would have been celebrating his 24th birthday on Saturday, we will also be hosting a charity bingo event tonight (Friday) at the RAOB Club in Kilgetty, with eyes down at 7.30 pm, and all welcome to attend to help fundraise for the cause.
“The money raised from this event will go towards the Daniel Bridle Memorial Fund, as well as the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, and West Wales Cat Rescue Charity,” she continued.
There is also a big well done to Lewis, the younger brother of Daniel who earlier this month took on the Ironman Wales challenge in Tenby, raising a magnificent £1,430 for the Bone Cancer Research Trust.
