Pembrokeshire’s new household recycling containers have been unveiled to the public at the County Show.
The boxes and bags will be delivered to some 61,000 domestic properties in September and October, ready for the launch of Pembrokeshire County Council’s new waste and recycling collections in early November.
The aim is to enable residents to recycle many more items at home than is currently possible, said Cllr Cris Tomos, Cabinet Member for the Environment and Welsh Language.
“People want to recycle more, especially plastic,” he said. “The new containers will allow them to do that. Instead of just plastic bottles, they will be able to recycle plastic trays, pots, tubs, punnets, and food and beverage cartons (Tetra Pak) every week.
“They will also be able to recycle a wide range of paper, cardboard, glass, food waste and metal packaging, as well as batteries.”
Grey bags will be provided by the Council for non-recyclable waste, which will be collected every three weeks, with a restriction of three bags per household per collection. Larger families will be able to request additional bags.
Fortnightly collections will be available for AHP (absorbent hygiene products), i.e nappies and incontinence waste products. Registration for these collections has already opened and can be found at www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/absorbent-hygiene-products
Full details on the new kerbside collection arrangements are now available on the Council’s website at www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/kerbside-collection
Leaflets with the same details will also be delivered to each household in the autumn along with their new boxes and bags.
Clr. Cris Tomos said feedback from members of the public at the show had been excellent.
“We’ve put a lot of thought into making the containers easy and practical to use,” he said.
