History has been made in Whitland with the appointment of the town's youngest ever Mayor.
Twenty-two-year-old Clr. Craig Wilson was officially elected as Mayor of Whitland for the year 2010/11 at Tuesday night's town council meeting. Clr. Mrs. Vivienne Morris was elected as Deputy Mayor.
It is believed Clr. Wilson might be the youngest ever Mayor in the UK, but this was unconfirmed at the time of going to press.
Donning the chain of office, Clr. Wilson has taken on one of the most important roles of his life. He was co-opted onto Whitland Town Council in May 2008 and is a governor for Whitland Primary School.
Clr. Wilson thanked members for their vote of confidence and said he hopes that he can continue in the footsteps of the outgoing Mayor, Clr. Miss Rosemary Morrison, who had been an asset to the council during her time in office.
Clr. Wilson commented that he 'is proud to serve the town of Whitland and hopes that the town council can continue to address matters arising in a positive manner'.
He is keen to involve the younger generations in activities within the town and support other organisations in their quest to bring the townspeople together in the many events that take place during each year.
Clr. Wilson's sister, Clair (who is just 20-years-old), will attend functions and events as his Mayoress, before she leaves to attend Aberystwyth University in September.
Mum and Dad, who are also councillors for Whitland, Robert and Carol Wilson, will also step into the fold as and when required.
They commented: "We are proud parents and will support Craig and Clair as much as possible during the next year."
The Wilson family are no strangers to the Mayor's role as Clr. Mrs. Carol Wilson served as Mayor in 2007/08.
Clr. Colin dons scarlet robes for fifth time
Narberth's new Mayor, Clr. Colin Williams, officially donned the scarlet robes of office this week.
Clr. Williams was installed as the town's First Citizen at the town council's annual general meeting at the Queen's Hall on Tuesday evening.
Clr. Williams, who runs Williams Vision in High Street, with his daughter Wendy and wife Sheila, is no stranger to the role, however, as this is his fifth Mayoral appointment.
Last year's Deputy Mayor, Clr. Williams took over from Clr. Mrs. Ruth Platt.
Before handing over the chain of office, Clr. Mrs. Platt thanked everyone for their support during her year.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed it," she said."I have had a lot of fun, but it was hard work, but nevertheless very rewarding,
"I have met some lovely Mayors from other towns and hope to keep in contact with them."
Clr. Mrs. Platt also thanked the clerk, Mrs. Caroline Coaker, for her support and wished the incoming Mayor well.
"I hope I did a good job," she added.
Clr. Williams was proposed for the Mayoral job by six times former Mayor, Clr. Eric Feetham, and seconded by Clr. Mrs. Sue Rees. All were in favour.
After presenting Clr. Williams with the Mayor's chain, Clr. Mrs. Platt presented Mrs. Sheila Williams with the Mayoress's chain.
Clr. Williams thanked councillors for the 'trust and honour' bestowed upon him to carry out the duties as First Citizen of Narberth.
"This is a very proud moment for me," he added.
Clr. Williams is actively involved in community life in Narberth, being a governor of the primary school, and was delighted to welcome headteacher, Mrs. Edna Davies, deputy head, Mr. Paul Harries, and four pupils, Mari, Georgina, Ben, Maia, and his nephew Nathan, a pupil at Dyffryn Taf, to witness the historic ceremony.
Clr. Williams thanked Clr. Mrs. Platt for carrying out her duties so excellently.
"We have worked together as a team and I hope it continues over the next 12 months," Clr. Williams said.
"I have received a lot of congratulatory 'phone calls and I hope I live up to the post of Mayor. I am looking forward to a very good year in office."
On behalf of Pembrokeshire County Council, County Clr. Elwyn Morse congratulated Clr. and Mrs. Williams on their appointments and wished them well for the year, pledging his support wherever possible.
Clr. Morse also praised Clr. Mrs. Platt on her successful year in office.
Clr. Williams's first duty was to propose Clr. Mrs. Elizabeth Rogers as Deputy Mayor. Clr. Feetham seconded it and all agreed.
