Choices. Good ones can make us; bad ones can break us. How do we make the right ones?

In the beginning God said: "You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden- except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die." (Genesis)

They had a choice. They chose badly. The serpent, AKA the devil, lied: "You won't die!" the serpent replied to the woman. "God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil." It was all too tempting; they ate, but choked on the consequences!

Banished from the garden, they had to fend for themselves, working the now cursed ground, bearing pain in child birth, eventually facing death. This happened sooner than they thought when their own son murdered his brother, death entered and yet another curse was placed on the land.

Small wrong choices escalate, reaping huge consequences; often affecting lots of people. All sounds very hopeless!

The Bible says anyone who is killed on a tree (a cross) is 'cursed in the sight of God' (Deuteronomy 21). It later says: 'But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing.'

This is the big picture. People are not perfect; we make bad choices, hurt each other, destroy the earth; alienating ourselves from God. It is like we have been bewitched, blinded.

The good news is, Jesus has covered it all. Jesus took on every curse caused by our imperfect choices and defeated them. Now it's our choice to follow him, or walk away.

Bad choices are costly. Rejecting Jesus is the most costly choice of all. The Bible says, do this and you will be separated from God, forever. On the other hand, choose Jesus and you can be united with God, forever, and depend on him in all things.

Jesus is the best choice, ever!
