After a successful grant funding bid to the Welsh Government, under the road safety initative grant, two locations within Narberth have been identified to benefit from the scheme.
Work on the central High Street region and traffic speed at the top of High Street, entering Spring Gardens will commence mid-January.
County Clr. Wynne Evans said: “Both these schemes are needed and long overdue. The High Street work will create a buildout onto the street, giving pedestrians a shorter distance to cross to the other side. They will be of drop kerb design to be easier for prams and wheelchairs and should slow down motorists as they approach.
“The High Street - Spring Gardens work will encompass a raised crossing point, and will then therefore act as a traffic calming feature as well, on what is a dangerous junction area.
“For those people who still cross directly on the junction, this will enable them to have a much safer point to cross the road. Also some form of speed reduction formats will be considered on the Northfield Road bend after a car recently demolished a house outside wall, as well as Spring Gardens, St. James Street junction, where we will be looking at speed survey work over the spring to gauge speeds of motorists as they approach that junction.”
