During the lockdowns some enthusiastic Narberth RFC members have rallied around create a new facility for the Rugby Club whilst the Playing Season has effectively been closed down. Working at a safe distance volunteers have used their construction skills to erect a Snack Bar and Seating area to replace the outdated Burger Cabin.
Committee men Malcolm Macphee, acting as site foreman, and John Evans provided their skills and labour for many days to help the club achieve its goal. A neighbour of Macphee, Mr Gary O’Donoghue spotted the work going on whilst walking his dog and very kindly joined in the following day. He helped cut and fix the membrane on the outside of the building.
The work has been organised and co-ordinated by Vice President Ken Morgan, a local architect, who has encouraged his friends and business contacts to take part in the worthy enterprise. He explained: “ The Pembrokeshire Championship players perform to a very high standard and during the playing recess we are trying to match this with a high standard of insulated building. We have secured early donations of materials and money from firms and individuals to help us kick start the project. I am hoping that progress photos and this news item will encourage others to come forward with assistance”.
Jason Morgan of FDS Construction very kindly came along to set out and cut all of the construction timber vertical studs which were donated by Health & Safety Consultant Mr Ian Hough. The studs were then covered with large wood panels supplied by D P Building Supplies and all fixings were also supplied by the same local Narberth Builders Merchants.
Committee man Macphee expressed his gratitude to Jason Morgan who turned up at short notice to maintain the building programme when another tradesman was engaged on other projects and could not be present on that weekend. Superb effort. Well done Jason.
The month it is hoped that local bricklayer Mr Andrew James will be able to complete his brick wall following which it should be possible to start the roof work the weekend afterwards. In case of rain affecting the future brickwork Mr Luke Morgan of Celtic Scaffolding Solutions has erected a scaffold ready to receive tarpaulins to create a makeshift canopy for weather protection. So rain should not stop play !
