There is such a thing as a free lunch as the Narberth Big Community Soup proved recently.
Earlier this month the Queens Hall Narberth, PAVS, Pembrokeshire Foodbank and Narberth Community Fridge came together to launch ‘Narberth Time Bank’ by throwing a Big Community Soup event at The Queens Hall.
Volunteers from Pembrokeshire Foodbank and Narberth Community Fridge cooked up a most delicious vegetable soup using surplus food from the surrounding community and it was enjoyed by over 80 people!
With Pure West Radio in attendance broadcasting music live from the Queens Hall, volunteers and members of the community came together to eat soup, chat and enjoy themselves.
Lee Hind from PAVS delivered a great presentation all about how Narberth Time Bank can benefit individuals who offer their time to help others, and Narberth Community Fridge gave out lots of delicious, free surplus food to attendees.
Local organisations such as Narberth Museum, SaveEasy Credit Union and the Red Cross shop also attended to meet with attendees and tell them about their activities; a great afternoon was had by all!
Lara Herde, manager at The Queens Hall said: “Time Bank is a free community-based scheme that promotes participation using time as currency.
“For every hour a person gives to a time banking activity, such as helping a neighbour or showing people how to knit, they will receive 1 time credit.
“Credits can be exchanged for access to a variety of social and leisure activities. All skills and services can be shared with others, everyone has something to offer and everyone’s time is valued equally.
“It takes just a few simple details to register with the Time Bank and gain an opportunity to exchange skills, time and knowledge within our community.
“If you, or anyone you feel would benefit would like to take part, please come along to the Queens Hall on any Monday from 11am to 1pm, to meet us and have an informal chat about how it all works,”?she added.
