More appreciative customers of ‘Griggles’ in Tenby have contacted the Observer to express gratitude and sadness at the shop’s closure.

June Howell of ‘Harvey’s Murder Mysteries’ said that Roland’s costume hire had been invaluable to the continuing success of the group’s ‘Murder Mystery’ evenings for two decades.

“Always there, ever reliable and attentive. We really couldn’t have managed without him and all his help,” explained June.

The original Tenby Murder Mystery Group was started by Mike and Maggie Thorne over twenty years ago, and when they moved away, Hilary and Len Harvey – both well known local am-dram actors - took over, re-naming the group ‘See-Saw’.

Sadly, Hilary and Len both passed away within a short space of time - a huge gap to fill – but the group soldiered on under the new name of ‘Harvey’s Murder Mysteries’ in their memory.

Since then, they haven’t looked back, and have raised laughs and considerable funds for numerous charities, as well as being ‘regulars’ in Carew Castle’s summer events programme.

But - alas and alack - another loss - Griggles retiring! What to do?

The answer was, of course, to buy up as much stock as Harvey’s ‘murder budget’ could afford, and then, in a light-bulb moment, the budget mysteriously expanded!

A cunning plan was hatched to take on, not only the costumes, but the costume hire as well.

“Once we’ve recovered the initial outlay, all proceeds from costume hire will go to charity,”?continued June.

“We have a range of historical outfits from Medieval through to 20s Flappers. We had to restrict ourselves to adult sizes, and we don’t have any animal/panto/Disney type costumes.

“But if you want to be the back or front end of a cow or a horse, I noticed Roland had two fine specimens in stock last time I looked - otherwise, contact us!

“We have recently set up a Facebook page, under ‘Harvey’s Murder Mysteries’, so all the info. you need, including future events, will be on display, but we will continue of course, to keep Tenby Observer readers in the picture at all times!”

The next three events for ‘Harvey’s Murder Mysteries’, in the Spring, (dates T.B.C.) will be held in Pembroke, Lawrenny and Gelliswick, in aid of the ‘Tall Ships Assoc.’

As 2020 is the 200th anniversary of the launch of ‘The Beagle’, and with Darwin’s connections locally, a naughty nautical theme was called for.

Find out what dastardly deeds took place on board during ‘Carwin’s’ famous voyage.

Guest sleuths – appropriately dressed – will be in demand to help solve a heinous crime! (But if you hate dressing up, come along anyway, and exercise the little grey cells!)
