It was a memorable night recently for three volunteers with Milford Haven Youth Matters whose achievements along with a host of other Pembrokeshire volunteers were recognised at a gala dinner and awards ceremony.

Liam Williams, Sean Owen and Finley Frost were winners of the ‘Mike Beckett Award’ (youth group) at the PAVS Pembrokeshire Volunteering Awards 2019.

They were handed the accolade by Abi Beckett, daughter of the late Mike Beckett.

The recent event held at the Pill Social Centre in Milford Haven was organised by PAVS and kindly supported by South Hook LNG as part of their ongoing commitment to local community projects.

Approximately 120 volunteers and guests were treated to a delicious meal cooked by Streetwise Catering and adeptly served by the PAVS waitresses, then entertained by the very talented choir, Fishguard Bad Habits, who gave a wonderful performance of several well-known songs!

This year there were seven categories of awards, with three finalists in each category bar the Individual Over 25 category, where there were four finalists as the volume and standard of nominations was so high the panel couldn’t choose between the two winners!

Sue Leonard, Chief Officer of PAVS, spoke about each of the finalists and the extraordinary contribution their volunteering makes to local communities.

Mariam Dalziel, South Hook LNG’s PR Manager, commented: “We are so pleased to have supported PAVS in an event that showcases the tremendous efforts of volunteers across Pembrokeshire”.

Each award was presented by a special guest presenter and following the presentation of each award, the finalists were interviewed for Pure West Radio to tell their uplifting and touching volunteering stories.

PAVS would like to thank the following people: all the guest presenters for their contribution, especially Toby Ellis for also recording the radio interviews; Fishguard Bad Habits for the entertainment; Streetwise Catering for the excellent buffet; Ben Manning our brilliant photographer for the evening and Torch Theatre for the loan and setting up of equipment.

Very special thanks goes to Colin Sharp and all the volunteers at the Pill Social Centre for the beautiful room set up and all their help beforehand and on the night, and of course to South Hook LNG for their sponsorship of the event.
