Tenby’s band of merry firemen have once again been thanked for putting the town’s Christmas tree in place.
Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting, the town clerk, Andrew Davies, told colleagues that it took 11 of the the town’s firefighters to get the tree into position in the grounds of St. Mary’s Church, and that they were continuing with their work that very night in putting the festive lights around the tree.
“I’d especially like to thank Rhys and Adam from Smart Gardens, Jeremy Lees, Roger Miles and Jason Rossiter for their help,” he said.
The Mayor, Clr. Laurence Blackhall, said that the Christmas lights switch-on tomorrow (Saturday) would follow the same pattern as previous years in Tudor Square, with Father Christmas arriving via the RNLI Inshore Lifeboat ready to turn the lights on with the Mayor at 5.30 pm.
The Salvation Army band and the Friendship Group carollers will kick-off the afternoon with Christmas carols, while local DJ Steve Briers will be on hand in the Square from 3 pm playing some festive favourites, while the De Valence will host a family night after the lights switch-on, with Father Christmas in his grotto.
“Congrats to the town clerk for sourcing such a large Christmas tree, and thanks to the fire crew for helping, and the Chamber of Trade for their involvement too,” said Clr. Blackhall.
The town clerk said that there would be a temporary road closure in place for High Street from 4 to 6 pm (outside Lollies sweet shop, from the junction at Crackwell Street and Charles Street) but that vehicles would still be able to travel one way up the ‘backhill’ from the harbour.
Clr. Blackhall said that it would be great if anyone could come forward to help with volunteering and with marshalling the event, and anyone who wished to do so should contact the town clerk at the town council offices.
