The RNLI’s Mayday Appeal has recently been extended to cover the whole month of May and, this year, Tenby RNLI Fundraising Committee raised over £700 for the appeal which was again using the strapline - ‘Do Your Bit, Fund Our Kit’. This appeal takes place all over Britain with yellow wellies as its symbol. Yellow Welly badges were on sale in the shop and raised over £200 in addition, so Tenby’s total contribution this year was almost £1,000.

This year, alongside the Saturday bucket collection, we tried a new venture with a tombola stall outside St. Mary’s Church (see picture) and this proved very successful, despite the bitterly cold weather. Thanks go to all who donated prizes and to Matthew Ronowitz for his donation which boosted the takings. The bucket collectors and those who ran the stall are all deserving of particular thanks as all ran the risk of hypothermia in such a cold wind!

They were: Doreen Mortimer, Liz Green, Christine Moore, Althea Shaw, Barbara Pegg, Jayne Hughes, Sylvie Morgan, David Morgan, Shan Thomas, Anne Thomas-Ferrand and Nicole and Terry Evans. Thanks must also go to Katherine John, of Morris Brothers, for allowing us to use the shop as a base for the buckets.

At the end of the month, a cake stall was held in the Boathouse and proved very popular, with all cakes selling out in record speed. Thanks go to Barbara Pegg, Althea Shaw, Julia Dashfield, and Nicole Evans for running it and to all who donated or bought cakes.

To complete the month, Doreen Mortimer ran a raffle in the RNLI shop to win a soft toy version of Stormy Stan, and this was won by Nick Good.

So all in all a good month!

The Mayday appeal has become an important part of the RNLI fund-raising year and we would like to thank everyone who supported this worthwhile cause over the month.

The committee meet again next Tuesday, June 25, at 12.30 at The Qube when plans will be finalised for the Coffee Morning to be held at White House, Castle Square, on July 2, and the Strawberry Tea and Sea Sunday Service which will take place at the Harbour on Sunday, July 14. All welcome.
