A meeting of Martletwy Community Council was held in Lawrenny recently when the following were among the matters considered:

Planning

Council considered an application for the erection of an 11kw wind turbine on land northwest of Hill Top Farm, Martletwy, and concluded that there was insufficient information provided to reach a decision on it, specifically in relation to its potential impact on the landscape. While not opposed in principle to the proposal, members felt that its visual impact is crucial to its acceptability and will request that more information be provided to enable a view to be reached.

Highways Matters

Council resolved to bring the following matters to the attention of the highway authority: the grating installed to carry the runoff from the new concreted gully works at Knowles Cross had filled with debris and blocked, while the sluice on the other side of the junction was similarly filled, together resulting in surface water and considerable debris washing across the junction and down Mead Lane towards Garron Pill; a pothole at the entrance to Eweton Farm on the Cross Hands-Martletwy road had re-established in an extensive area of broken surface material; further west on the same road as far as its junction with the Landshipping turning, there were areas where the roadside edge was breaking-up and forming a 'step' which was hazardous, but not readily apparent to motorists.

Lawrenny Village Hall and Youth Hostel

Clr. Harbud provided a summary of proceedings of the annual general meeting. The youth hostel income had increased to £18,000 from £11,000 in the previous year, while the hall had turned a loss in the previous year to a small operating profit. The mothers'/toddlers' group was to close due to lack of the appropriate age-group, but the gardening group went from strength to strength.

Next Meeting

The next meeting will be on Monday, September 5, at 7.30 in Lawrenny Village Hall.
