Sir,
I have been waiting with interest for any developments regarding Tenby Market as I have always thought it a wonderful, but underused space.
A lot of the visitors who come here are used to a very different market experience to ours and I know that changes are hoping to be made. Given the turnover of shops in Tenby, mainly down to expense, I would love to see all the units open to allow smaller enterprises a chance, paying reasonable rents with perhaps a unit being kept each week for charities to run on a rota. One unit could be used for demonstrations, Tenby Country Market could have a place where it belongs in the centre of town and it could become somewhere for people to browse, especially when the weather is not so good.
The upper floor could be opened up with more units, possibly a meeting room or a cinema room; the possibilities are fascinating.
The subject has come into my mind again since watching ‘Countryfile’ on BBC1 on Sunday where a voluntary group, using local materials and services, have refurbished the derelict Newtown market in Powys, making it a wonderful space for the local community, and it just goes to show what can be achieved.
The programme can be seen on BBC i player and some catch-up TV services.
Alyson Bush,
Tenby.
