A Milford man has been fined in court after admitting possessing cannabis.

Thirty-one-year-old David Lewis, of Chestnut Way, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, to plead guilty to a charge of possessing 0.4 grams of the Class B drug.

Prosecutor Abul Hussain told the court that police carried out a drugs warrant at the defendant’s home address on January 26, and recovered the cannabis.

“Mr. Lewis has eight previous convictions on record, some for drugs possession matters including cannabis and Amphetamines. He has been out of trouble since 2017,” he explained.

Defence solicitor Jonathan Webb told the court that it was the first time that Mr. Lewis had purchased cannabis for a number of months as he fancied a ‘chill out’.

“He’s been out of trouble for 18 months, and it was a very, very small amount of cannabis,” he said.

Magistrates fined the defendant £80 for the offence, and ordered him to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge. A destruction order for the drugs was also passed.
