Tenby Harbwr Brewery were very pleased to pick up two awards in one weekend recently - from two highly regarded organisations within the brewing industry - SIBA (The Society of Independent Brewers) and CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale).

At the SIBA Independent Beer Awards in Ludlow recently, brewer Rob Luly collected the coveted Bronze award for ‘British Premium Cask Bitter’ for its ale called RFA Sir Galahad - a rich ruby red beer with four different hop varieties.

Head Brewer Richard Johnson was particularly pleased with the young brewery’s first major award.

“The competition covered the whole of Wales and the West, with a total of 185 cask ales entered across the categories - and a completely blind tasting by a panel of experts in the field - so we are very proud to be singled out and awarded the Bronze,” he said.

“The SIBA people really do know their ales so we are made up!"

Meanwhile, the following day, the members of Pembrokeshire CAMRA visited the Harbwr Brewery’s flagship pub The Buccaneer Inn to present Mike Evans and his team with the prestigious ‘Pembrokeshire Pub of the Year 2018’ award.

Mike was truly delighted with the accolade and praised his staff and in-house brewers for their dedication to driving standards at the pub ever higher year-on-year.

Mike Porter, Chairman of Pembrokeshire CAMRA, said on handing over the award: "It is our pleasure to welcome the Buccaneer into the long and illustrious list of CAMRA Pembrokeshire pubs of the year, beating off strong competition from other pubs in the area and near vicinity!

“The Buccaneer has a long history of delivering quality real ale to its patrons, and now it is able to add its own award-winning ales to its offering, this just adds to the attraction for real ale enthusiasts."

“There is a preponderance of real ale pubs in Pembrokeshire, so again, winning 1st place out of a field of 300 competitors is no mean feat for the busy town centre pub.

“As county winner, The Buccaneer will next be competing against the winners of Carmarthen and Ceredigion pubs of the year, and is rumoured to be in with a good chance of claiming the West Wales Pub of the Year 2018!" he added.
