Local children’s author, Eloise Williams, who is known for her novels set along the Welsh shoreline, is set to appear at Cardiff Children’s Literature Festival later this month as part of its award-winning line up (Saturday, March 30 - Sunday, April 7).
Pembrokeshire-based and award-winning author of gothic mysteries Seaglass and Gaslight, Eloise has been creating irresistible ghost stories set in Wales for over five years.
Eloise’s books are a combination of mystery and family drama even when faced with the supernatural world, and are inspired by Welsh coastlines. Her latest novel, Seaglass, launched in September last year, is a chilling contemporary ghost story aimed at children aged nine to 12.
Basing Seaglass on a fictionalised version of Wiseman’s Bridge, the majority of Eloise’s stories are based off places in Wales. She said: “I have always found West Wales to be extremely beautiful and inspiring. It makes me think of the adventures and landscapes of the books I loved when I was a child.
“My favourite book as a child - and probably still - was The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. It opened my mind to the possibilities of other worlds all over the place.”
Speaking on the positive influence of Cardiff Children’s Literature Festival and encouraging young people to read, Eloise said: “If we encourage young people to read, we are encouraging them to think for themselves. I’m honoured to be part of that.
“I’m also really looking forward to meeting readers, young and old, (at the festival this year) and chatting about the thing I love most - books!”
The award-winning Cardiff Children’s Literature Festival 2019 is set to host more than 50 events in English and Welsh including writing workshops, book readings, craft activities and games across Cardiff’s most iconic venues such as Cardiff Castle, Cardiff City Hall and Cardiff Central Library.
