Local Labour AMs are encouraging others in Pembrokeshire to join them in showing solidarity with the campaign and to report any incidents of racist abuse in football via the Show the Red Card website at theredcard.org/reportit.
Eluned Morgan and Joyce Watson teamed up this week to wear red to show their support of the Show Racism the Red Card campaign.
In recent weeks, there have been a number of high profile racist incidents at football matches including the dreadful scenes of chanting and abuse at the Bulgaria v England UEFA European Qualifiers. In the last week, official figures have shown a startling 10 per cent increase in hate crime across England and Wales.
Eluned Morgan said: “Show Racism the Red Card do great work delivering anti-racism training across Wales as well as here in Pembrokeshire.
“I attended the Wales versus Croatia game last week, I was so impressed by the behaviour of our fans but as we’ve seen in other matches, racism is still very much alive.
“We must do everything we can to consign it to history, everywhere.”
Joyce Watson said: “It is incredibly disappointing to read about the rise in hate crime and I know that we are certainly not immune to this.
“We must all do all we can to challenge racism wherever we see it which is why campaigns like this are so important.”
Wear Red Day is a national day of action which encourages schools, businesses and individuals to wear red and donate £1 to help facilitate the delivery of anti-racism education for young people and adults.
