High visibility vests are to be purchased to help protect volunteers carrying out litter picking patrols across Saundersfoot.
At this month’s meeting of the village’s Community Council it was discussed by members as to how volunteers can be better protected whilst conducting litter-picks along the ward’s roads.
Due to insurance queries and safety implications, such litter picking patrols have not recommenced in recent times, and it was noted that the amount of litter discarded on the grass verges was increasing.
Following confirmation that the Community Council’s insurers will provide, at no extra cost, cover for persons volunteering, it was proposed and seconded that 10 high visibility vests and a hazard warning road sign advising of litter picking being carried out be purchased.
Volunteers have been asked to provide to the Council with a list of persons attending and dates when the activity will take place, with a ‘risk assessment’ and policy for such activity to be taken in advance.
