Judging of Kilgetty in Bloom took place on Wednesday, July12, on, thankfully, a pleasant day after the downpours on the Tuesday.

The judges, Jan and Rob Palin and Sue Lewis, had the usual difficult task of remembering the 94 classes entered as they visited the 30 entries in Begelly and Kilgetty villages and we thank them for giving up their day for us. It was good to see some new gardeners joining in this year and receiving good points for their efforts. The community association members prepared a welcome lunch in the community centre, which gave the judges a short break and time to meet the other volunteer gardeners who look after the community garden and the village flower beds.

A strawberry tea was held on Friday, July 21, for all entrants of the competition, followed by the presentation of the trophies and certificates by County Councillor David Pugh. Some winners, unable to attend, nominated a friend to receive the trophy. Thank you to the Co-op for their donation towards the refreshments and to Stepaside School for their colourful posters, which decorated the hall.

The winners were as follows: front garden - Mr. B. Hart, Oakfield Drive; rear garden - Mrs. S. Smith, Oakfield Drive; window boxes, tubs or baskets Mr. B. Hart, Oakfield Drive; over 75-year-old gardener - Mr. B. Hart, Oakfield Drive; garden theme - Mr. and Mrs. M. and K. Breen, Begelly; patio - Mrs. J.
