There were 77 classes entered in the Kilgetty in Bloom competition this year, which gave the judges, Jan and Keith Treadaway and Eileen Seal quite a difficult task remembering which gardens they were comparing.

Their marks showed that the standard was very high this year and it was very encouraging to have a few new entries and also to see that the competition had spurred a group of Heritage Gardens residents to turn a spare piece of untidy grass into a neat colourful garden area.

It was a pity that there were so few entries from Begelly where the judging began, but hopefully this will improve in future years.

Entries were mainly from Oakfield Drive, Heritage Gardens and Shillingford Park.

A lunchtime break at the Cottage Cafe revived the judges before resuming their tour.

They were very impressed with the whole area of Shillingford Park, resulting in awarding them both the trade and the group trophies.

An afternoon strawberry tea was held for all entrants and the trophies were presented by the vice-chairman of the Community Association, David Anderson

The results were as follows:

Best front garden (Mr. Monk Silver Challenge) - Mr. K. Hamer, Shillingford Park.
