Ahead of the main meeting, councillors listened to a presentation from Commercial Christmas, a Welsh company specialising in the provision of Christmas lighting. This had been arranged in order to help councillors make decisions on the provider for Kilgetty's Christmas lighting this year and followed earlier presentations from two other providers.
The latest news and other main items discussed and agreed at the full council meeting were:
Vegetation from the stream at the rear of the Rectory, Begelly, had now been cleared and a fallen tree in the New Road/Parsonage Lane area had also been taken away.
A new curved community bench, funded by KBCC, had now been manufactured and installed alongside the bus stop in Carmarthen Road, Kilgetty. Feedback from local residents had been very positive and full council wished to congratulate Leon Baines, of WoodWorks, Kilgetty, for his excellent work. Vegetation had also been cut back around the bus shelter by Clr. Gardner and by members of the BKCA. Pembrokeshire County Council (PCC) had agreed to steam clean the shelter.
KBCC had agreed to make charitable donations to a number of local organisations, including Cruse Bereavement Care, Wales Air Ambulance and Pembrokeshire Citizens Advice Bureau. However, KBCC would be pleased to hear from any local charity wishing to seek a donation. Requests are normally considered at September meetings of KBCC.
Details of KBCC's grass cutting contract for 2014 and beyond were now being drawn up and would be ready to go out to tender early next year.
KBCC had responded to the Local Government Boundary Commission of Wales's draft proposals on their Review of the Electoral Arrangements for the County of Pembrokeshire. KBCC had stated that it would prefer to see no changes made.
KBCC had voted to fund the erection of Christmas lighting in Kilgetty this Christmas and would pursue details with its preferred supplier. A small sub committee of KBCC would take proposals forward.
KBCC had also agreed to fund the purchase of a community bench which would be placed in Begelly, near to St. Mary's Church.
KBCC had agreed to support Purple Routes Play Project with their request to return to Kilgetty and operate play sessions for children, up to the age of 12, on Kingsmoor Common, Kilgetty. This followed their successful sessions held earlier this year. Session dates are September 27, October 11 and 25 and March 7 and 21, and April 4. Sessions commence at around 3.15 pm for two hours. KBCC hoped that parents and carers would continue to support these sessions.
Begelly-Kilgetty Community Association (BKCA): The Music in The Garden event took place in the Community Garden on August 11. Despite a lovely day, attendance was disappointing. BKCA was keen to see local residents support these community events.
Planning: extension to Kingsmoor Cottage, Hill Lane, Kilgetty - full council had no objections.
County Councillor David Pugh's Report: Clr. Pugh was unable to attend the meeting due to existing PCC commitments, but provided a written update. This included the pot holes in the doctor's surgery car park had now been filled; fortnightly collections of black bin bags would commence on October 14; orange recycling bags and food waste would continue to be collected weekly. Householders would receive information about these service changes shortly; PCC were looking at further options with regard to the Kingsmoor Gypsy site following the Welsh Government's refusal to sanction extinguishment of common rights; the new swings (for younger children) in the Kilgetty play area had been partly erected, but not yet completed.
Next meeting: The next meeting of Kilgetty Begelly Community Council will take place on Thursday, October 10, in the Green Room, Kilgetty-Begelly Community Centre, commencing at 7.30 pm.
