The latest full council meeting of Kilgetty, Begelly Community Council (KBCC) took place last Thursday at Kilgetty, Begelly Community Centre. The latest news and other main items discussed and agreed were:

KBCC and Begelly Kilgetty Community Association have jointly agreed to provide additional play equipment for Kilgetty Play Area. The new equipment will be aimed specifically at toddlers and younger children and will see additional safety grass matting being provided. Remedial and repair work to the fencing around the play area has also been recently completed following some earlier vandalism.

Councillors were pleased to see that pavement improvements had recently been completed in Ryelands Lane, Kilgetty, and that some attractive landscaping by the local community had recently been carried out near to the entrance to Heritage Gardens, Kilgetty.

Post Office has acknowledged KBCC's concerns about vehicles parking on double yellow lines outside the new Post Office in Kilgetty. Quite correctly, it has said that this is an issue they have no control over. Post Office delivery vans now park along the side of the Post Office. Traffic wardens have been asked to monitor the situation at this location.

Dyfed Powys Police have agreed to keep an eye out for speeding motorists in Reynalton following concerns expressed by local councillors and residents.

KBCC has written to Pembrokeshire County Council to ask if the bus shelter in Ryelands Lane, Kilgetty, can be repaired and for the shelter in Carmarthen Road, Kilgetty, to be cleaned. KBCC will be looking to trim back the vegetation alongside this shelter.

Quotations for the erection of Christmas lights in Kilgetty have now been received and will be discussed at KBCC's August meeting.

COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION

Begelly-Kilgetty Community Association (BKCA): The Bulldog Run will take place this year on August 3. Kilgetty in Bloom prize-giving will be taking place today (Friday, July 19) following the recent judging. It is planned to hold the Music in the Garden event on August 11 at 1 pm in the Community Garden, Kilgetty. There will be free entry, although donations would be welcomed. A tea tent will be provided for refreshments.

Planning

PCC provided KBCC with additional supporting information on the application for the erection of agricultural buildings, access track and hard standing at Langdon Mill, Begelly. KBCC had no further comments to make following its recommendation at the June meeting to raise no objections.

Cattle accommodation building at Langdon Mill, Begelly. KBCC recommended refusal of this application due to the over-development of this area and the resultant increased traffic and noise pollution that would occur.

Erection of dwelling (amended design of planning consent 03/0133/PA) on land to the north of Footlands, Begelly. KBCC had no objections.

Replacement of existing storage and laundry building at Trees Caravan Park, Stepaside. KBCC had no objections.

Erection of a two-storey extension at The Cottage, Parsonage Lane, Begelly. KBCC had no objections.

County Councillor David Pugh's Report

Welsh Water are now looking to continue their work to upgrade the wastewater network in the area in October 2013. This follows a delay to the work caused by the discovery of a protected species on the site (Dormice). Work on sewer pipes will shortly be taking place near Begelly Cross roundabout and again at Kingsmoor Common, Kilgetty in September.

PCC are now looking at local alternatives for the siting of a Civic Amenities site following withdrawal of the New Hedges proposal.

PCC are to invite town and community councils to a workshop to look at ideas for cost savings on local services following the recent Spending Review by HM Treasury.

Fortnightly collection of black bins was now likely to commence in November this year. PCC currently remain the only local authority in Wales to undertake black bin collections on a weekly basis.

Next meeting: The next meeting of Kilgetty Begelly Community Council will take place on Thursday, August 8, in the Green Room, Kilgetty-Begelly Community Centre, commencing at 7.30 pm.
