TWO National Park staff practised what they preach last weekend by taking part in the Tenby 10k run.
Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority chief executive Tegryn Jones and director of recreation, marketing and communications James Parkin both finished the 10k in exactly one hour.
As part of their day job, both runners encourage people to get out into the National Park and to use the extensive network of paths and bridleways to get some fresh air and stay healthy.
James raised £170 (and counting) for the RNLI for his efforts and said: "It was a challenging but worthwhile run surrounded by the spectacular scenery of Tenby and the National Park.
"I'm pleased to have done my own little bit to support the RNLI, a very important charity in Pembrokeshire, and even more pleased to beat Tegryn by just 31 seconds! The sweet smell of pasties over the last 200m of the course gave me the strength to make it to the end!"
Tegryn added: "It was a great day and fantastic to see so many people turn out to support us all. There were over 300 runners and probably a few more hundred watching, so it was a brilliant boost for Tenby's economy too.
"The next big sporting event to hit Tenby and the National Park will be the Ironman Wales triathlon on September 11. I certainly don't plan to take part in that one, but it should be a real sporting spectacle which will hopefully see the county out in support again."
The annual Tenby 10k is organised by the Trot Running Club.
