Samuel Kurtz MS said it was a privilege to lay wreaths in memory of ‘the sacrifices made’ that will ‘never be forgotten.’
Posting on his Facebook page, the Senedd Member for West Carmarthenshire and South Pembrokeshire said:
“This year, it was a privilege to attend and lay wreaths at both Pembroke and Pembroke Dock’s services of remembrance on Sunday.
“As time moves on and fewer of those who served walk beside us, sadly memories will fade of the great conflicts that dominated the beginning of the 1900s. So it is important that we never forget the sacrifices made so that we live in a free democracy.
“Therefore, it was incredibly moving to see so many children and young people take part in the parades and services this year. From the Scouts and the Guides, to junior football and rugby teams, seeing young people take a moment of their weekend to remember and offer their thanks to the service of every man and woman who has defended our country in our Armed Forces, filled me with a sense of contentedness, that the sacrifices made will never be forgotten and our freedoms will never be taken in vain.
“I always take a moment to think of those family members who served throughout the 20th century. Some I never met, only knowing of them through stories and black and white photographs and one I was able to sit with and chat about their time in the army only a couple of weeks ago.
“A special thanks to Pembroke Town Council, Pembroke Dock Town Council and the local Royal British Legion for their fantastic work in organising the events again this year, and to everyone who took part.
“At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.”
