Fly-tipping issues and vehicle abandonment at Penally train station car park are two matters that have been highlighted to the local authorities in recent weeks, that could lead to the possibility of the removal of the public waste and recycling bins altogether from the facility.

In a report made to the village community council recently, county councillor for the Penally Ward Clr. Jon Preston said that sadly, the issue of fly-tipping had increased since March of last year.

“The problems of misuse that have previously been reported regarding the bins at Penally railway station car park have continued, and it is now a matter for Pembrokeshire County Council and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority to agree a solution which ultimately could involve the removal of the bins altogether,” stated Clr. Preston.

“PCC is encouraging people to come forward with information leading to successful enforcement action against individuals by offering a £100 reward; and there is a dedicated email to enable members of the public to reports incidents of fly-tipping, 24 hours a day.”

“An abandoned Volvo that had been parked up in the railway station car park and left unmoved for a few months has now also been dealt with.

This involved patrolling Council Parking Enforcement Officers putting fixed penalty notices on the vehicle for the failure to display a valid parking ticket, Clr. Preston explained.

Further checks were then carried out via the publicly available UK Gov website which established that the car did have a valid MOT until November - but did not have current road tax.

“All indications suggested that the vehicle had been abandoned, therefore, following a Local Authority inspection by an authorised inspector to confirm that the vehicle had been abandoned as per the legally accepted definition, I received confirmation of the removal of the vehicle on Friday, June 18,” Clr. Preston continued.

Clr. Preston also reported to the community council that local police officers had recently been called to an incident involving a group of young people causing damage to the facilities around the play park near School Lane.

“Damage was caused to fencing, signage and a public bin. Descriptions of the group were given to the Police, and it is thought that they are local to the area. PCC have also been informed of the damage,” he added.
