Sir,
I have just finished watching my sixth Welsh Ironman and all I can say is it gets better and better each year.
I much preferred the running being on the road in front of the fire station at Tenby and not on the path, as I worried someone would trip up on the loose cobbles. The organisation of stopping spectators just walking in front of the athletes was also greatly improved this year.
The official crossing places were much better organised; just a few signs telling the spectators where to go to cross would have made it nearly perfect.
Having the large screen near the end of the race was another brilliant improvement as it enabled more of us to see the faces of the athletes as they finished the course.
Even though I don’t know anyone personally competiting in the Ironman, it is a pleasure and an honour to be able to come to Tenby and offer my support to these amazing men and women. I am always disappointed it doesn’t get the coverage it deserves on the Welsh television news.
The only thing that disappointed me this year was the bad pathway linking up Quarry Cottages and the Salterns car park. Surely it is about time that this public pathway was given a proper surface. It had flooded and, with the combination of water and mud, was completely impassable.
Thank you again to everybody who organised such a splendid event. All the local residents of Tenby and the surrounding towns should be really proud of themselves because of what is accomplished each year.
