Three friends, Louis Elston, Owain Coombs and James Brace, will be undertaking an exhausting challenge for charity next month.
All local to the Tenby/ Saundersfoot area, the intrepid trio plan to walk 72 miles in 24 hours along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path.
Due to take place on Friday, June 4, their daunting trek, which will have over 7,200 foot of ascent, will start at St. Anne’s Head in Dale and finish in Tenby.
“Our aim is to inspire and promote honest conversations around mental health issues as well as promote the concept of ‘Ecotherapy’,” said Louis.
“This is the idea that through engaging with natural environments you can prevent and treat mental health issues.
“What is more, we are fundraising for MIND Pembrokeshire, a charity which does so much in our local area, and one that also has its own Ecotherapy programme, (amongst others).
“The idea came about as a response to the worsening mental health crisis, one which has been massively exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic (with severe depressive disorders having doubled),” he continued.
“The one thing which has helped us through all the challenges of the last 12 months has been getting outside, getting active and reconnecting with nature and the Welsh countryside.
“This week (May 10-16) is Mental Health Awareness Week. We have outlined this as a period to really push the message of Ecotherapy and to try and fundraise as much as possible.”
