Less than two months before the second World Alternative Games gets underway in Llanwrtyd Wells, organisers take the whacky festival of crazy sports to Banc Y Beili in St. Clears for a day of fun for all the family tomorrow (Saturday). The first World Alternative Games in 2012 - inspired by London's hosting of the Olympic and Paralympic Games - was a massive success, attracting attention and visitors from all over the world, and taking runner-up spot in the Wales Tourism 'event of the year'. In the countdown to this year's World Alternative Games, which run from August 8 to 25, and will include over 60 different sports and activities, the organisers are spreading the event throughout Wales. The Juvenile Sports Committee in St. Clears is delighted to be joining in the fun - and is hosting a fun afternoon of nine games which draw on the history of the town. The nine energetic activities tomorrow will be Beili Chase, Finger Jousting, Dizzy Challenge, Caber (well fence post) Toss, Tractor Crank and the pairs event Sheepdog Trial, along with 'Rock Paper Scissors' and 'Sandbag Quoits' and Bung The Boar for the less athletically inclined. Exciting news this week is that the Finger Jousting champions from St. Clears and Whitland will be invited to the Finger Jousting World Championships in August, and be invited to join the World Finger Jousting Federation! The games in St .Clears will be set against the backdrop of its Norman 'motte' or castle mound, and there will be historical theme running through the day. "St Clears is delighted to share in the excitement and novelty of hosting the World Alternative Games, and highlighting the culture and history of our town," said Graham Edwards, the Mayor of St. Clears. The event in St. Clears starts at 2 pm. Adults will be charged £2 to take part in an event, and children £1. Everyone attempting three games will get a World Alternative Games medal! Next month - on July 27 - Whitland will host its version of the World Alternative Games. There will be six activities, alongside a 'World Strongest Man' style exhibition event featuring former World champion powerlifter John Williams, and Wales Strongest Man contender Hywel Owen-Thomas.
