Narberth Under 11s opened their 2012-13 season on Sunday with a trip to Pontyberem's annual seven-a-side rugby festival.
Despite the dismal weather conditions, Narberth took to the field to play their local rivals Crymych in the opening match of their age group. Both teams had a shock when international referee Nigel Owens stepped on to the field for this West Wales clash.
Narberth kicked off the match, but despite some excellent tackling and passing from both teams, Crymych eventually ran out winners by four tries to nil.
Narberth's second game was against Cefneithin. Despite the loss in their first game, Narberth came out all fired up and Cefneithin were hit with a barrage of superb tackling and passing skills, with Narberth running in six tries to nil.
The boys knew they had just put in an excellent performance; Felinfoel was the next game. Still pumped from the previous win, Felinfoel were outclassed, with Narberth winning six tries to nil.
The final game of the day was against a very hard Tumble team, who were marked as one of the strongest teams of the day. It was a hard fought game, with excellent passing and tackling skills from both sides. After some fierce battling, Narberth opened the score with a much-deserved try. As the minutes ticked away, Tumble edged themselves ever closer to the Narberth try line, but a solid defence resulted in a turnover ball and Narberth scored again.

Narberth 24 pts. Felinfoel 14
A dream start to the season for Narberth Under 12s as they put a try on the scoresheet with the first move of the game against these fancied opponents.
Harri Harries at outside-half showed plenty of hunger for the ball as he caused a bit of havoc in the Felinfoel defence with his feet.
Talfan Jenkins was up fast to claim possession off the floor and as the ball sped through the back line it found Griff Evans, who completed the score. Harry claimed the conversion.
The backlash followed just as quickly, but Narberth withstood the pressure with some hard tackling and pushed back upfield.
From a scrum 10 metres out, Jordan James went blind and found himself on his own to score an unconverted try in the corner.
The Narberth coaches decided to play three periods to give all the squad a run-out and it was Jack Fussell's turn to shine in the second of these.
It was his hard tackling which put a stop to a Felinfoel attack. Lewis Hough kicked the loose ball on and from the recycled possession Jack was again on hand to finish it off. Lewis added the conversion.
From then on it was Felinfoel all the way as Narberth relaxed a little. A couple of their pacy runners opened the gaps to run in two converted tries and by the third period the score was a lot closer at 19-14.
It was a hard-fought tussle from there on. Rhys Kemble shone with a brilliant solo effort, but couldn't quite reach the tryline.
A great jinking run by Tomas Webb almost set up a score, but a high tackle on Griff Evans brought a penalty instead.
Dafydd Gibby went close before releasing the ball to Ifan, who scored an unconverted try.
Felinfoel pressed hard in an effort to get a late score, but there was some good tackling from Narberth, with Harri Harries in particular standing out in the bravery stakes.
