Tenby’s iconic bandstand needs more than just a ‘lick of paint’, a town councillor stated this week.
Calls have been made by members of Tenby Town Council recently for a much-needed spruce up of the bandstand on Castle Hill due to its poor state.
Pembrokeshire County Council representative Neil McCarthy recently met with the town clerk and said that the authority would be happy to provide some paint for the bandstand, but that it would be down to the town council to find volunteers to help with the painting.
At Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs, Christine Brown made the call for any volunteers to come forward to help with such a project, although her colleague Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter said that unfortunately she felt the bandstand needed more than ‘just a lick of paint’.
“It’s a bigger job than that, and we want it done properly and professionally!” she commented.
Clr. Will Crockford felt too that the job needed a professional touch, and a company that could bring the right scaffolding to take on the height of the bandtstand, due to health and safety aspects.
“Maybe we could ask a local painting company to get involved, as it needs more than some volunteers turning up with a few brushes! If PCC can provide us with the painting materials, then at least that’s a start,” he added.
Clr. Mrs. Brown said that they would keep the item on the agenda, and look at the town council’s finances, before discussing once again how to best move forward with the project.
