An up and coming hip hop artist hailing from Tenby will appear on the musical line up at one of the most fashionable festivals in Europe this summer.

Will Mills will take his cyber-sounding beats and appetite for spoken word to the Secret Solstice Festival in Reykjavik in June, where the likes of Radiohead, Of Monsters And Men, Deftones, Action Bronson, Pusha T, Róisín Murphy, and Afrika Bambaataa, will also be taking to the stage at the eclectic Icelandic event.

Making his way into London’s underground scene just under two years ago, where he has studied at the London College of Communication, Will has played a major role in initiating Welsh hip hop along with his identical twin Niall and DJ Jac Harries.

After studying Geology for over two years, he has the unfamiliar dream of rising to stardom in Iceland, taking inspiration from its unique, twisted landscape.

Will who is the son of Jon Mills of Tenby Cycles, made his first recording in 2011 with his brother Niall and local friend Jack Waring, entitled ‘Out With You’.

Before long the trio added further friends to the musical line-up and were soon recording in a studio in Carmarthen under the band name North Walk, inspired by the Tenby North Beach location, where his father’s shop is situated nearby.

“My mum would drive us out after school, get the weeks food shopping and pick us up when we were done,” explained 20-year-old Will in a post to his Facebook page this week after being announced on the Secret Solstice line-up.

“We’d practice twice a week, refining ourselves to a cupboard on the second level of the middle staircase in school.

“Here we made tracks like ‘Book of Ideas’ and ‘Usual day’. It’s harder than it should ever be to have a voice in Pembrokeshire.

Labyrinth Live Music and Sports Bar in Haverfordwest gave the band their first gig, and Pembrokeshire Surf Ryders also invited the band down to play whenever they had slots.

“I remember playing a curry night at the Dennis Cafe (in Tenby), repeating the same set over and over because we only had 20 minutes perfected!” continued Will.

The band split when Will and his friends headed off to university, but he and Niall continued to make music separately,

When Will moved to London in 2014 he and Niall were introduced to DJ Jac Harries and since then their hard work and commitment has seen their musical dream really take off.

“So on June the 17th 2016 I will join the likes of Action Bronson, Radiohead, Pusha T and play the same slot Stormzy did this time last year at Secret Solstice Festival, Iceland. It is possible and the five years have been worth it. From Tenby to London, from London to Iceland,” he said.
