Pembrokeshire Federation of Women’s Institutes (PFWI) were absolutely delighted to be able to hold a very popular competition this year, after a break of two years because of the pandemic.

Creative Activities Committee: Mary Haughton (Committee Chair) said how truly delighted she was that the competition could go ahead this year, with the winners of both sections representing Pembrokeshire WI at the Royal Welsh Show in July. The competition was held on April 20 at a new venue, The Pavilion, Withybush Showground. She thanked everyone who had helped, the judges, stewards, everyone who had supported but most of all the competitors for the hours of hard work they had put into making their items.

After judging which took most of the morning, the event was then open to members and the general public to attend to look at the wonderful items, flowers and produce that the members had made.

Congratulations to all who entered the competition this year. The theme ‘Oceans in Crisis’ was not an easy one to represent, but the approaches ranged from dying coral reefs to the dilution of polar oceans, over-fishing, endangered marine species and plastic pollution. The judges were amazed at the ingenuity and commended the high standards of entries produced by PFWI ladies.

The results were :

  • Rose Bowl – 1st place Lamphey and District WI; 2nd place Cosheston WI; 3rd place Burton WI
  • Floral Cup – Freystrop and District WI
  • Brecon Cup – Ludchurch WI
  • Public Choice – Craft Burton WI

The winners now go forward to represent Pembrokeshire at the Royal Welsh Show in July. We wish them well.

Next year’s topic will be “ All Things Bright and Beautiful”.
