The annual Rotary Club of Narberth and Whitland Youth Speaks took place recently. In a packed room, five teams entered the junior competition - under 14 years - and three teams entered the senior competition - under 18 years.

The adjudicators were Roger Lewis, a past chairman of Pembrokeshire Young Farmers Club and a well-known public speaker, Richard Cole from Whitland, who trains YFC speaking teams in Whitland and Llanddarog - he has judged debating and after-dinner speaking contests, and the chair of the adjudicators was Jamie Adams. Jamie is a dairy farmer from Keyston and is at present deputy leader of Pembrokeshire County Council.

Jamie gave an appraisal of all the speakers and said that there was a very high standard throughout.

The best chairman (under 14) was Richard Phillips, the best proposer was Evie Maidment and the best opposer was Charlie Kind. The best team was Elisia Narbett, Evie Maidment and Gabielle Ridge.

In the senior competition, the best chairperson was Josephine Maidment, the best proposer was Sam Stevens and the best opposer was Ellie Richards. The best team was Bryony Morse (chair), Vince Morse, (proposer) and Ellie Richards (opposer).

All the entrants were presented with certificates by club president, Derek Williams. The winners will go forward to the Zone (South West Wales) final and if successful will go on to the district final (South Wales).
