Young public speakers from Netherwood School, Saundersfoot, and Ysgol Dyffryn Taf, Whitland, have won through to the Rotary Youth Speaks District 1150 Finals in Carmarthen on Monday, March 3. The Rotary Club of Cardigan hosted both the Junior and Senior zone competitions, which proved to be of an exceptionally high standard and those Rotarians, friends and families who attended were rewarded with excellent debates from all the schools who participated. Junior Youth Speaks (aged 11 to 13): Winners - Netherwood School, Saundersfoot. Motion - 'Smoking - Ban the Ban - let's clear the air'. Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot. Team - Medya Gungor, Angharad Palmer and Ellie Short. The Ysgol Dyffryn Taf team of Charley Williams, Dale Tricco and Vince Morse were runners-up with their motion 'This House believes that the Big Bang beats God every time'. They were sponsored by the Rotary Club of Narberth and Whitland. Senior Youth Speaks (aged 14 to 17): Winners - Ysgol Dyffryn Taf, Whitland. Motion - 'This House believes that marriage is an essential part of modern society'. Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Narberth and Whitland. Team - Kate Davey, Josephine Maidment and Harry Kind. TheYsgol Gyfun Emlyn team of Anne Thomas, Flo Corral and Heledd Thomas were runners-up with their motion 'This House believes that reality TV is rubbish'. They were sponsored by the Rotary Club of Cardigan. The adjudicators for both competitions were Mrs. Patricia Ford (senior adjudicator), Miss Catrin Rees and Mr. Ken Jones.
