Pembroke and Pembroke Dock Town Council would like to thank everyone who attended the Armed Forces Day service which was held in the grounds of the Heritage Centre in Pembroke Dock on Saturday.
The service was conducted by Rev. Elizabeth Squires, with readings from the Mayor of Pembroke, Clr. Dai Boswell, the Mayor of Pembroke Dock, Clr. Jane Naughton, Rev. Mike Brotherton, and Castlemartin representative, RSM Wayne Davies.
The Heritage Centre held a fun day after the service with a number of stalls from local organisations.
Special thanks goes to Mrs. Jackie Kenvyn, Lionel Nutting and the Heritage Centre for their support during the service.
Heritage Centre manager, Stuart Berry, said: “Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre celebrates the diverse history of Pembroke Dock, a town which is believed to be unique in that it has played host to the Royal Navy, the Army and the Royal Air Force during its 200-year history. Because of these special connections to the three branches of the armed forces, it is fitting that the Armed Forces Day service for the towns of Pembroke and Pembroke Dock should be held at the former Royal Dockyard Chapel that now houses the Heritage Centre.
“The service was well-attended by town and county councillors, as well as by serving service personnel and veterans. A fun day in the Heritage Centre included stalls and demonstrations by a range of local organisations, including Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service - who gave an impressive home safety demonstration, Dyfed-Powys Police, the Women’s Institute and the RNLI. The Heritage Centre’s volunteers also held a bric-a-brac and cake sale, whilst their volunteer divers showed off some of the equipment used when recovering items from the Sunderland flying boat in the Haven waterway.”
Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre is staffed almost entirely by volunteers and is run by Pembroke Dock Sunderland Trust, a registered charity.
