Plans for a new, nurse-led walk in service at Tenby Hospital are moving forward following the first meeting of the Tenby Walk In Service Implementation Group which will meet monthly.

In January this year, Hywel Dda University Health Board (UHB) agreed to open a nurse-led walk in service on a year-round basis to provide convenient access to a range of treatments for minor illnesses and injuries.

Judith Hardisty, vice-chair of Hywel Dda UHB, said: “I’d like to thank everyone who came to the first meeting of the Tenby Walk In Service Implementation Group.

“We are working towards an opening date in early July and so it was great to see the stakeholders from the South East Pembrokeshire area around the table to ensure this service will deliver the service outlined in the business case.”

The Implementation Group includes representatives from South East Pembrokeshire Community Health Network, Hywel Dda Community Health Council, and management representatives.

Chairman of the South East Pembrokeshire Community Health Network, Mansel Thomas, is a member of the Implementation Group.

Following the first meeting, he said: “It was good to see that the Health Board has already undertaken detailed initial planning for the new service, which was outlined at the meeting.

“The scheme was well supported by the wide range of participants and so it is hoped that the July opening date will be achieved.”

It was also confirmed at the meeting that St. John’s Ambulance Service will provide a service for residents and visitors who require treatment for minor ailments this Easter in Tenby from April 10 to 23 at Tenby Cottage Hospital.

Further information, including opening times, will be made available at the earliest opportunity.

Hywel Dda UHB is committed to ensuring regular updates are made available as the project progresses.
