Headteacher of Tavernspite CP School, Kevin Phelps, is currently running the Pembrokeshire coastal path raising money for charity en-route.
What started as a personal challenge to run the 186 miles of the coastal path, turned in to a fundraiser when one day, whilst enduring horizontal rain and gale force winds, Mr. Phelps decided it would be a good idea to use it as an opportunity to help his charities of choice: Tavernspite PTA and the RNLI.
Mr. Phelps said of his run, which so far he has been doing in stages: "Pembrokeshire is a beautiful county and it is very exciting to be able to run around the whole coastline. I am really enjoying the challenge, although it is quite tough at times.
"Hopefully, many children, families and friends of Tavernspite School will join me for the last stretch from Saundersfoot to Amroth in November to make it a little easier. We are delighted to fundraise for our school, but also for the RNLI who do such valuable work here in Pembrokeshire."
The charities were selected as the PTA raise funds which help to enrich the children's education with equipment, trips and events and in doing so help to create a real sense of community within the school.
The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea, providing a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service around the coasts of the UK, as well as a seasonal lifeguard service on many of the busiest beaches in England and Wales.
As a keen surfer, Mr. Phelps felt it was appropriate to support them too.
The finishing line for the run will be at the New Inn in Amroth on Sunday, November 6.
Those doing the final leg will meet in Saundersfoot at 1.45 pm in the harbour car park and run along the Strand, through to Coppet Hall, on to Wisemans Bridge, then down into Amroth.
For updates on the run, you can visit the Tavernspite PTA Facebook page and, if you would like to sponsor Mr. Phelps, please send a cheque made payable to Tavernspite PTA to: Tavernspite CP School, Tavernspite, SA34 0NL.
