A group of walkers from Saundersfoot recently turned their weekly exercise into a fundraising opportunity for UNICEF Ukraine.

Courtesy of Hubert Hilling, an (almost!) retired stalwart of the Clarence Hotel staff, a magnificent Victorian Tea was enjoyed by all.

This has become something of a highlight in the walkers’ calendar, but this year, the weather took a turn for the worse, so instead of everyone enjoying his delightful garden,

Hubert, undeterred, somehow managed to accommodate 20 sodden walkers in and around his cottage.

Nobody missed out on sandwiches, cakes, tea or coffee! In his efforts, Hubert was ably assisted by his cousin and neighbour Grace Richards, who was also voted the best Welsh cake maker in the county.

Thanks also goes to The Woodridge Inn Hotel, Wooden, for allowing the group free use of their car park, and to all who took part for their generous donations, annd of course to Hubert and Grace.

Funds raised amounted to £107.20p, to be added to an on-going collection organised locally for UNICEF Ukraine. If you would like to contribute, and enjoy music, why not go along to the Sensory Garden in Saundersfoot, for “The Busking for Ukraine” sessions, every Saturday afternoon, (weather permitting), during August.

Alternatively, there is the ‘Ukraine Cottage’, opposite Frosts on Saundersfoot High Street, where a variety of useful items/clothes/toys etc., are offered free of charge to local, recently arrived Ukrainian refugees, or to anyone else who enjoys a good browse, for a donation.
