Narberth County Councillor Vic Dennis and Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate Marc Tierney have welcomed the decision that further engagement will take place with local residents over a scheme to improve road safety on a Pembrokeshire trunk road.

Last month, planners held an open day event in Llanddewi Velfrey seeking views on three proposals to realign the A40 between the Penblewin Roundabout and Redstone Cross.

Of the three formal options put forward, only one - the ‘orange’ route sought to remove the junction completely. Campaigners have called for action to improve the junction which links the village of Bethesda with the town of Narberth and the A40.

Following the last consultation event, both Clr. Dennis and Marc Tierney backed the proposal to remove the junction and sought the views of the public in relation to all of the options put forward.

Clr. Vic Dennis said: “For my constituents, the message I have heard time and again, is that this work must improve the safety of the junction. The orange route removed the junction, but maintained access to Redstone Road from the A40 and protected the existing B-road between Bethesda and Narberth to ensure local traffic continued to flow. ”

Marc Tierney said: “Over the last few weeks, Vic and I have been meeting with residents to hear local views. It has been clear from the emails we’ve received that a further consultation event was needed given the range of ideas coming forward. We both welcome the decision that ARUP will be holding another drop-in session on Thursday, May 30, between 12 and 8 pm, at the Bloomfield Centre, Narberth.”

Clr. Vic Dennis continued: “In light of our discussions and the feedback received by planners, a fourth option is now being discussed which again removes the junction but is situated to the south of the current A40. It is really important that all options are on the table and that anyone who uses this junction has their say on the plans. That way we can make sure Redstone Cross is as safe as it can be.”
