Huge thanks has been given to the community after generous contributions has ensured a replacement defibrillator can be introduced at Narberth’s Queen’s Hall venue.

The defibrillator on the venue was rightly used on Friday evening in an emergency, but unfortunately was found the next day in the town after being out in heavy rain for over 15 hours, and was deemed unusable due to water.

Now a fundraising page set up by Anneka Hopson-Griffiths has seen nearly £1,500 raised in the space of a couple of days to replace the defibrillator, which was funded from BHF’s Cymru’s No Time to Wait appeal, in 2013.

“This is a defibrillator that has been used in the past in the local community and has been used for all the right reason and has saved lives,” posted Anneka on the GoFundMe page she has organised.

With the machine needed again within the town centre over the weekend, and with the closest one a little further away, with quick access to a car, Anneka said that it really does make you realise how much a defibrillator in the town centre is needed.

After being well on the way to a new target of raising £2,000, Anneka remarked: “Thank you all so much, we cannot believe how amazing the community have pulled together to get this money raised so quickly.

“We have spoken to the Queen’s Hall and we are now funding for a second defibrillator and pocket masks to be put with the defibrillators!”

Narberth County Councillor Vic Dennis said: “A huge thank you to Anneka for setting up the Gofundme page and inspiring the community to raise the funds for a replacement defibrillator....in a matter of hours!

“The ambition does not stop there as Anneka is now hoping to get a second defibrillator and some further supporting equipment.”
