Recently the children, young people and families supported by Hywel Dda University Health Board’s Paediatric Palliative Care Team and Children’s Community Nursing Team were very fortunate to have a funfilled festive family day out at Folly Farm Adventure Park & Zoo.

The day was made possible from the £4,000 top prize awarded to Hywel Dda Health Charities as part of the Tesco Haverfordwest community funding scheme ‘Bags of Help.’

Dawn Thomas, palliative care play specialist, said: “Families were treated to entry, a magic show, Santa visit with special gift as well as lunch. Fantastic memories were created on this very special day; memories that will stay with families for the rest of their lives.

“This day out allowed the children and families to meet each other socially and build friendships and relationships. Days out like this make such a difference to our children and young people who spend time in hospital away from their siblings and it was lovely to see so many happy, smiley faces enjoying time together.”

The day out was such a great success that it is hoped that it will be repeated on an annual basis. Thanks to Tesco and Folly Farm for helping to make this possible.
