Over the past few years, the teddy bears parachuting from St. Mary's, Begelly, church tower has become a well-known event, but this is not all that features at the church that day. Each year, a different theme is chosen for decorating inside the church. In 2011, the teddy bears were up to all sorts of things such as gardening, getting married, partying; in 2012, they were 'Going for Gold' with a multitude of sports and in 2013 the church was decorated with scenes from nursery rhymes. This year, the theme for the windowsills and other areas in the church will be children's films, so volunteers are all busy preparing for their versions of Alice in Wonderland, Toy Story, Sleeping Beauty, Finding Nemo, The Gingerbread Man and others. Entry to the church is free. Of course, the parachute jumps will go ahead as usual at 1 pm, 2 pm and 3 pm, so if you have a brave teddy bear, bring him along to get kitted out with a parachute and see if he can land nearest the cross on the ground and win a prize. This year, you can sponsor a teddy to jump for Wales Air Ambulance. There will be tea and cakes in the church hall, so why not bring the children along (and the grandparents!) on Saturday, August 23, from 10 am to 5 pm, to spot all the children's film scenes in the church and have a fun afternoon. Smiles are guaranteed!
