It’s ‘full steam ahead’ for Pembrokeshire Model Engineers as they invite anyone wishing to view their locomotive and steam engine model collection along to one of their ‘club running day’ meets.
Located behind Milford Haven Leisure Centre - Pembrokeshire Model Engineers is a model engineering club started in the late 1980s by George ‘The Fish’ Thomas, father of the present chairman, Trevor Thomas.
George inspired a group of people, less than 12 in number, to form the club. The initial track was an elevated 31/2 and 5 inch kidney shaped oval.
The track subsequently ’grew’ to a full 2,683 foot (1/2 mile), or if you prefer, 0.82 Kilometres - complete with a steel bridge where the line now crosses over itself.
In 2013 they took the decision to move to The Northern Federation of Model Engineers. Visitors and their locos are always welcome, with the appropriate certificates of course.
Nowadays many people for various reasons buy second user locomotives both in steam and battery powered diesel out line.
The society hold a ’club running day’ from about 11 am until late afternoon on the first Saturday of the month every month of the year. It is a day specifically for members or visitors to run their engines.
In addition they have designated the third Saturday of the month specifically for members to run their electrically powered locomotives. The next one will be held on Saturday, May 20, from 11 am, where steam enthusiasts and thirsty travellers are welcome to attend for a viewing and an excellent cup of tea!
Kits locos are also available, details at the club or ring 01834 811914.
